A single trail that crosses two worlds — from the lush pine forests of Kullu to the stark cold desert of Lahaul, ending with the crescent-shaped Chandratal Lake.
Hampta Pass is a crossover trek in the truest sense — you walk from one climate into another over the course of a single trekking day. Starting near Manali, the trail moves through dense forests of pine and birch alongside the Rani Nallah stream, opening into meadows so green they barely look real. Then you cross the pass itself at 14,100ft, and everything changes: the green vanishes, replaced by the bare rock and cold desert of the Lahaul valley.
It's considered one of the most accessible high-altitude treks in the Himalaya, making it a strong choice for a first serious mountain trek — without feeling like a compromise on scenery. Most trekkers close the trip with a visit to Chandratal, the crescent-shaped "Moon Lake," one of India's most photographed high-altitude lakes.

We include the drive to Chandratal in the standard itinerary, but it depends on road and weather conditions in the Lahaul valley at the time. If access isn't possible, we'll let you know in advance and adjust accordingly.
