One of the Kumaon Himalaya's most accessible glaciers — a gentle, forest-lined trail ending at the icy source of the Pindar River.
Tucked into the Kumaon Himalaya's Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve, Pindari Glacier is one of India's most accessible high-altitude glaciers — and one of its most rewarding treks for a first serious Himalayan outing. The trail follows the Pindar River upstream from the village of Khati, through rhododendron and oak forest, past waterfalls and Kumaoni hamlets, before opening into the high-altitude approach to the glacier's snout.
Unlike many high-altitude treks, Pindari is well-marked and supported by guesthouses along much of the route, making it approachable for trekkers with basic fitness rather than technical mountain experience. The reward at Zero Point is a close-up view of the glacier itself, framed by Nanda Kot, Maiktoli, and Panwali Dwar.
Yes — Pindari Glacier is considered one of the most beginner-friendly high-altitude treks in the Himalaya. The trail is well-marked and gradual, with guesthouses along much of the route, making it a good choice for a first Himalayan trek.
Zero Point gives you a close, unobstructed view of the glacier's snout — you won't be walking on the ice itself, but you'll be standing right at its edge with Nanda Kot and Maiktoli rising around you.
Mid-April to June and September to mid-November give the clearest views and most stable trekking conditions. The trek is closed during winter and monsoon due to snow and landslide risk.
